the book I just rated on the upper left, "Brainwashed: Challenging the Myth of Black Inferiority" is unusual for this site. Why? Because it's one I helped write.

Unlike the others on the right-hand side where I propose ideas for books yet to be written, this is one I actually spent about a year working on with the guy whose name is on the cover, Tom Burrell. I'll have more to say about that experience later. But now, I just want to pull your coat to the book itself.

As my fellow Chicagoan Studs Turkel might have said, "Take what I have to say with a huge dose of salt...But take it." "Brainwashed" is probably one of the most important books written in this country in, er...uh,,,ummm, ever. If you think you're educated and you haven't read it, you're fooling yourself.

As you can tell, I'm still trying to figure out how to make this blog work. Since I'm not a techie and don't want to spend my life writing html code, I'm trying to work around the blog format to create something a little more visually eclectic and less text-based than most blogs, but it ain't easy.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not complaining. I'm so happy and grateful for the genius of those techies who created and developed the internet and the blogging system that I feel a little guilty saying anything but words of high praise.

I just want to let you know that I recognize the glitches in my blog and plan to work them out as I go along. Lucky for me, most of the folks who are discovering the blog seem to like the idea and content enough to bear with me. And since I finally got enough nerve to tackle trying to add a counter to my site about a week ago, (Google Analytics) I found out I'm getting visitors from 10 countries. World domination can't be too far away.

In the meantime, I'm going to use my actual posts to just touch base now and then and to add key words so that search engines can find the covers, titles and stuff I'm posting. OK?

I've tried my best to avoid this book. It just seemed too easy. But, with the sudden visibility of the semi-secret society I spent most of my adult life making a living in, I think I might as well join the fray(ed). This is a memoir of sorts, since I plan to talk about the last 40 or so years of my life, but don't expect a lot of James Frey or Jason Blair type stuff. I like to keep my private parts private.

But, when it comes to the suddenly popular adgame, it'll be no-holds barred. I plan to be one of the first insiders who tells what really goes on (as opposed to books like Confessions of an Advertising Man, written as a giant ad for its writer and his ad agency). I see BladMan as more like the Valachi Papers - you know, like a made man in the Mafia ratting out his crew for the good of the larger society. But I don't feel any shame because they turned on me first, when I tried to make the ad world safe for diversity.

It's a long story. But, as one of advertising's first broadcast phrases first advised, "Please stay tuned".
